Fascinating biography of Thomas Fitzpatrick, a railroad man who was 16 and working as a grader on the Kansas Pacific when William F. Cody was hired to shoot buffalo to feed the grading crew. He went hunting with Cody and they became lifelong friends. Fitzpatrick went on to be a roadmster for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas and then a division roadmaster for the Denver & Rio Grande during the great silver boom. The author captures his voice as he tells stories of fighting alongside Cody against the Cheyenne Indians and blizzards, gamblers and muleskinners. A treat for anyone interested in the Old West or Buffalo Bill stories.
