Girls Only sprang from a series of very popular articles Witchel wrote for The New York Times. Greatly expanded, the book is the story of Alex's relationship with her mother and her younger sister, how these three women formed their own family within a family, with all the guilt, neuroses, frustrations, and great love that come with their various roles and generational points of view.
